This article was drafted by Norman Busigu. Special thanks go to Natalia Cassel, HJ-PR Agency, Lara of LALDN Productions and Sprayground.

Exuding the enchanting essence of a free spirit that (in her words) “doesn’t identify with age”, the first thing I noticed about Sandflower Dyson as we met at the May Fair Hotel, was her playful, yet poised and pure energy that she elegantly emits. As someone whose mother would take her to Ashrams for meditation, this (in her adulthood) has manifested in a zen-like-aura and pristine personality that I instantly felt. Immediately able to disarm you with her infectiously sweet smile, she speaks with calmness, clarity and complete conviction. Within minutes of meeting her, it became clear to me that this is someone who knows who she is, and what her purpose is.

Being the daughter of a Rock & Roll artist and a visual artist, creativity flows through Sandflower’s very DNA. Fast forward to today, she exists as a multi-disciplinary artist and visionary that has no fear of standing out from the crowd – and through her work she actively encourages everyone to embrace that which makes them unique. When speaking to her, it is evident that she understands both her power and potential. Indeed, her extremely decorated portfolio career has received widespread acclaim, resulting in her music and visual art to be featured in mainstream publications including Vogue Italia, Paper Magazine, The New York Times, Fader and The London Times.

Boasting a dedicated global fanbase, Sandflower’s skills have been displayed on renown stages around the world - from Brooklyn (where she was born) to Bali and beyond. Indeed, Sandflower's most recent album, "The Radiant Explorer", is an introspective reflection of one’s self-awakening. As an offering, it excels in creating a soundscape that represents the embodiment of thriving sounds in a culturally diverse world.

Currently the Creative Director of Content at Sprayground (a leading travel fashion brand), Sandflower impressively worked with Grammy-recognised producer David Sisko (whose credits include Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake and the Pussycat Dolls) to create an original soundtrack that brought the brand’s fearless energy and rebellious luxury to life, for their London Fashion Week debut in September 2025. Her relationship with Sprayground doesn’t stop there - she has also worked extensively with them for their renown African Intelligence collection. With such an impressive profile, I was truly struck by how down to earth and humble she is, which speaks volumes to the strength of her character.

In the midst of her jam-packed schedule during her work trip to London in January 2026, I had the chance to check in with her. During a stroll in the heart of London’s West End by The Ritz on a typically grey and rainy British weekday (which she helped to brighten up with her beautiful pink coat and regal jewellery pieces!), we candidly spoke about her Brooklyn upbringing, career (highlights), Pan-Africanist mindset, Sprayground and upcoming album!

Can you summarise what you do?
Sandflower: I’m a musician, multidisciplinary artist, and creative director - for all things creative.
You are the daughter of a Rock Star and a Fine Artist – that’s so cool! What was that like growing up?
Sandflower: It was incredible! I was lucky and blessed to be surrounded by music, all different types of instruments and all types of genres: Jazz, Rock & Roll, Pop music… Also, understanding the importance of practise - that was something that I really saw at a young age. My dad wakes up every morning at 5:30am to paint; my mom is constantly writing and creating.

Could you give me a few words that describe your signature style/what makes you different?
Sandflower: Eclectic, heartfelt and dynamic.
My favourite song of yours is The Wanderer (it speaks to where I am in life currently). What is your favourite song that you’ve made and why?
Sandflower: Oceans – which is kind of the sister song to The Wanderer. We made it in collaboration with a group in Bali; this song has good synergy between different countries and types of music!
How has New York City culture shaped you as an artist and who you are?
Sandflower: It’s completely shaped who I am, being from Brooklyn! New York City has what London has (and a reason why I love London): it has many cultures, different languages, different mindsets, opinions… people have the freedom to dress differently and create all types of art… it has all the things that make you feel alive in a place and I really love that!

You’ve featured in the likes of Rolling stone, New York Times, performed on Saturday Night Live and more… What would you say has been your career highlight?
Sandflower: Performing at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City. This was a huge moment for me - the Museum of Modern Art is one of my favourite establishments ever… There was a sea of people… Performing with my dancers and other musicians, I truly felt the love of the audience coming back to me! And of course, my other highlight is you (Norman) interviewing me!

I’d love to know more about the African Intelligence series with Sprayground. What inspired this collection, and how does all this tie into your links / interest in Africa and continent at large?
Sandflower: The African Intelligence Collection has been incredible high point in my life! I get to showcase my design aesthetic, my love for the continent, my own personal heritage, my Pan-Africanist world view and the incredible artistry of David-Ben-David (the CEO and Founder of Sprayground). I have been able to launch something that incorporates these things and allows me to learn new things. One collection was made in Ghana by artists, with local materials, and we were able to give back – that’s something that’s really important to me and Sprayground.
And why Africa – each country, every region has its own design aesthetic, colour aesthetic and traditions… not to mention all that’s happening with up-and-coming designers! The countries I’m most connected with right now I’d say are Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. I want to learn more about more countries in Africa, and I really want to go to the Ivory Coast! As a musician, I’m really enamoured with history of the musical instruments that have been made there.

My final question: what can fans look forward to from you soon?
Sandflower: A new African Intelligence Collection is coming soon, then in the summer is a big back-to-school collection… I will be working on dropping another album, as well as an EP and music videos for The Radiant Expansion, which is an expansion of my album The Radiant Explorer. I’ll also have more performances, and will be coming back to London.
